Future Paths in Restorative Justice with Children

Outcomes of the i-Restore 2.0 Project and Exploring Prospects for the Field

The i-RESTORE 2.0 project builds upon the successes of the first i-RESTORE project (2019-2021), which aimed at promoting restorative justice for child victims of crime and improving the skills of legal professionals. Leveraging the results of the initial project, i-RESTORE 2.0 goes further by establishing procedures to ensure quality restorative justice is accessible to children involved with the law. This project is a collaboration among seven partner organisations: Terre des hommes Romania, Terre des hommes - Regional Centre in Hungary, Terre des hommes Hellas, European Forum for Restorative Justice (Belgium), Restorative Justice Netherlands, HALT (Netherlands), and the Social Insurance Board (Estonia).

In the Closing Event of the project we aim to present all results and activities organised, materials that were co-created with our Child Advisory Boards, and give an overview of how the restorative approaches in each country evolved as a result of the project’s implementation.

Key objectives of the project included empowering child victims, suspects, or accused to become agents of change within restorative justice procedures, raising awareness among multidisciplinary actors and the community, and promoting the benefits of restorative justice. Our target groups included child victims and children suspected or accused of offenses, legal practitioners, policymakers, families, and communities.

Through the i-Restore 2.0 project we aimed to improve capacities of children involved in criminal proceedings to understand their rights and the benefits of restorative justice, easier access to restorative justice services for children and young people, and better awareness among families, communities, and practitioners.

Join us in this final event of the project to explore the journey so far, celebrate our accomplishments, and look ahead to the future of restorative justice for children.
